The Aphrodisiac Kitchen came to fruition because I recognized a hole in our relationship with food. Before iPhones, Facebook, and The Kardashians, food was a central point in communication. Between wars, weak economies, and rising food expenses we have lost our lust for food and the importance it serves over our culture(s).
Food is a language.
She speaks in the simplest way, “I love you; therefore, I give you life.”
We can convey this message through a feast with family, a romantic meal for our partners, a bonding lunch with a friend, or a simple dinner for ourselves. Although all of the above are important, we must start with a foundation: the self.
Sweet Potato Sandwich
1/2 an avocado
A handful of arugula
1 sweet potato
Salt and pepper
Bread of your choice
1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1.5 teaspoons chopped dill
1 clove of garlic
1/4 of a lemon
1 small sweet onion
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Cut sweet potatoes into one inch slices and line them on a baking sheet.
Coat with about two to three tablespoons of oil and add a generous pinch of salt and pepper.
Bake them for about 20 minutes, flipping them over halfway between their cooking time (you want to be able to put a fork through the slices and they should be nice and golden).
Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine mayo, chopped dill, lemon juice, a pinch of salt and pepper, and freshly mince or pressed garlic- set aside.
Cut your avocado open and slice it vertically so you can have a creamy bite every time.
Slice your onion into half moon thin slices and in a pan, over medium high heat, coated with olive oil, cook your onions until translucent and fragrant- set aside.
By this time your potatoes should be just about ready! Now you can assemble.
Grab two slices of bread and stack it up!
Bread slice, dill mayo, sweet potatoes slices, cheese, onions, avocado slices, arugula, bread slice.
LASTLY- over medium heat, with the pan you used to cook the onions, toast your sandwich so the cheese melts and all the flavors marry. Brown on both sides
"This recipe is SO indulgent and delicious. I know it may seem like a lot of work, but after you do it once, it's nothing.... and it's really really worth it. It is easily vegan if you replace the cheese and mayo with your favorite alternative choice. I used a GF bread, but feel free to use a fresh loaf of sourdough...... honestly life changing. "
