"Our human need to perfect is exhausting and sometimes you have to let loose, start small, and allow yourself to grow."
Most people don’t associate food with meditation. They find the cooking process to be overwhelming. The chopping is unfamiliar, the sizzling is scary, and the timing just has you pacing back and forth. Our human need to perfect is exhausting and sometimes you just have to let loose, start small, and allow yourself to grow.
Start with a kale salad. Gather the necessary ingredients, take a deep breath, and begin.
In a large bowl exfoliate the chopped kale with salt. Use your fingers and the bottoms of your palms to massage the kale and break down the fibers.
You want the salad to loosen, for she should be palatable as she rolls around in your mouth. Incorporate the garlic, ginger, oil, and avocado with your hands. As the avocado hugs your fingers, pinch a taste to test.
Clean your greens. Allow the water to travel between every crevice so there is no grit interrupting your first bite.
The kale’s baby curls will tickle the indents of your fingerprints as you thoroughly rub her down. Shake dry, ridding of any moisture that may be holding on. With the very tip of your knife, pierce the outside of the kales spine, glide through the skin, and detach the flesh. Continue one by one, stacking the sheets high and feeling exhilaration as the knife finally crunches through them all at once.
Plate your salad and applaud yourself. You made something simple, rewarding, and peaceful.
Through practice you will find the prep work becoming almost mindless, allowing you to feel high. Allowing yourself to feel elated.
